Two new ambulances and a fire truck were the focus of a tour given Wednesday before the Sturgis City Commission meeting.
Sturgis Director of Public Safety Ryan Banaszak showed off and demonstrated the features of the two 2022 ambulances, as well as a refurbished 2005 Deep South tanker fire truck. The ambulances, Wheeled Coach models on a Ford E350 chassis, are imprinted with the Sturgis emergency services name, the first in years, as the department had previously contracted with outside ambulance services. The contract with LifeCare Ambulance, SafetyNet, expires at midnight May 1.
The units received by Sturgis were fully licensed for use as of Wednesday. The ambulances include state-of-the-art equipment and have ability to securely live-feed patient status to the hospital of destination to better prepare medical personnel.
The two ambulances were purchased for $588,732 and the truck for $142,500.
