Blood drives this week in McCordsville

MCCORDSVILLE – Two community blood drives are happening in McCordsville this week.

Proportion Air Community Blood Drive is 10:20 a.m. to 1 p.m. today at a Versiti Bloodmobile at 8250 N. 600W., McCordsville.

McCordsville United Methodist Church will host a blood drive 3:15-6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 19 inside the church, 6247 W. Broadway St., McCordsville.

Sports equipment available to children in need

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Boys and Girls Club now has items available to those in need of children’s sports equipment.

Balls, Shoes and Barely Used Sports Equipment Closet contains a variety of cleats, clothing, balls, protective equipment and more of multiple sizes. Call the club at 317-462-2404 to inquire about available items and schedule a time for pickup.

Trails Day June 4 in Cumberland

CUMBERLAND – Celebrate National Trails Day June 4 in Cumberland with events, food trucks, games and more.

Cumberland Trails Day kicks off at 8 a.m. with the Cumberland Trails Run 5K, 5-mile and 1-mile race. At 9 a.m. is a chalk walk, followed by trail safety presentations by public safety officers at 10 a.m. Vendors and food trucks will be available from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. along with games like kickball, pickleball, beach volleyball, basketball and more, as well as airbrush tattoos and balloon art.

Festivities are at Lions Park, 301 N. Buck Creek Road. Proceeds from the event benefit Friends of Cumberland Trails. Visit town.cumberland.in.us to register for the races.

Community shred days scheduled

GREENFIELD – Greenfield Banking Company has announced community shred days for May through October at several banking locations.

Free, on-site shredding will be 9 a.m. to noon at least one Saturday a month, including June 4 at the Cumberland office; June 11 at the McCordsville office; July 23 at the Fortville office; Sept. 17 at the New Palestine office; and Oct. 1 at the main office in Greenfield.

The service is for paper documents only and people are asked to limit documents to a maximum of three tall kitchen trash bags (13 gallon size). Services are provided by Stericycle Shred-it; participants must remove documents from their own vehicles to hand to an attendant at a shred truck.

HCCF grant cycle open

GREENFIELD – The 30th anniversary grant cycle of the Hancock County Community Foundation has opened and grants will be administered on a rolling basis from May to November, or until funds are depleted.

Nonprofit organizations may submit one application in the areas of program/project, or capital improvement. Requests can be made for $1,000 to $5,000, and staff will review applications on the fourth Wednesday of May, July, September and November.
