Pickup trucks are part of American culture. But many “American” trucks are assembled outside the U.S.A. Ram is now assembling all of its heavy-duty trucks in Mexico. General Motors has moved much of its Chevy Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 assembly south of the border as well. Ford’s F-150 through Super Duty truck series is the only full-size American pickup truck still 100% assembled in the United States.
Is the Ford F-150 made in America?
Ford proudly assembles all of its F-150 pickup trucks in its Dearborn, Michigan and Kansas City plants. That said, just 55% of the components that go into Ford’s F-150 are made in either the United States or Canada. Many consider the Ford F-Series the most American pickup truck.

Not only is the Ford F-150 assembled in America, but so are all of its full-size siblings. Ford’s Super Duty series is made up of its F-250 through F-750 heavy-duty pickups and cab/chassis trucks. Ford assembles all its F-250 through F-550 trucks in its Louisville, Kentucky plant. If you order an F-650 or F-750 truck, it will hail from Avon Lake, Ohio.
The American Automobile Labeling Act (AALA) requires automakers to disclose where it assembles every light-duty vehicle and what percentage of its components come from the U.S. or Mexico. You can find this information on the sticker window of all new F-150s. But the AALA does not require automakers to disclose the same information about heavy-duty trucks. Therefore, it’s harder to tell what percentage of Ford’s Super Duty trucks originate in the U.S./Canada.
What Ford trucks are made in Mexico?
Ford assembles all its full-size (F-150 through F-750) trucks in the U.S. Ford assembles its midsize Ranger pickup truck in Wayne, Michigan. But the Maverick is from Mexico: Ford assembles its new Compact truck in its Hermosillo plant. In addition, Ford built some older Super Duty pickup trucks in Mexico.

Today, Ford assembles every Super Duty (F-250 through F-750) truck in the United States. But before 2016, Ford assembled its Super Duty trucks through a joint venture with Navistar International. This joint venture company was called Blue Diamond Truck and it assembled trucks for both companies in Mexico.
Are you curious where your Ford truck is from? It’s easy enough to find out. Any vehicle with a VIN beginning in 1, 4, or 5 was assembled in the United States. Vehicles with a VIN that starts with a 2 hail from Canada. Finally, if you see a VIN that starts with 3 it means that vehicle was assembled in Mexico.
Which pickup trucks are made in the USA?
Every Toyota Tundra, full-size Ford pickup truck, and Nissan Titan is assembled in the U.S.A. Some industry experts believe the F-150 is the “most” American-made pickup, while others grant that distinction to the Toyota Tundra. Every Ram 1500 and all heavy-duty General Motors trucks also are assembled in the U.S.A.

Stellantis assembles all of its heavy-duty Ram trucks at its Saltillo, Mexico plant. If you order a Ram 1500 “Classic” with just two doors, it also comes from Saltillo.
General Motors assembles all regular cab Chevy Silverado 1500/GMC Sierra 1500 pickups at its factory in Silao, Mexico. GM builds some crew cab models in Mexico as well.
Sixty-five percent of Toyota Tundra components come from the U.S. or Canada. Toyota assembles its full-size truck in San Antonio, Texas. Cars.com named the Tundra the most “American-made” pickup truck. But some experts disagree.
The Kogod School of Business at Washington DC’s American University maintains its own American-made auto index. It estimates that 3% of the price of your new Toyota Tundra goes back to Japan for research and development, while 6% goes to Toyota’s headquarters as profit. For this reason, Kogod declares the Ford F-150 the most American-made full-size pickup truck.
